Health and Safety Standards, Protocols, and Resources
As we all commit to doing our part in keeping the campus safe and healthy, community members, when on campus, will be expected to adhere to the following health and safety standards and protocols, which are based on the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention and other public health guidance.
Use of Masks/Facial Coverings
Face masks or cloth face coverings must be worn by everyone on campus except when individuals are alone in private spaces (e.g., private offices, enclosed workspaces), when officially warranted by practical activities (e.g., actively eating or drinking), and outdoors where safe physical distancing (at least 6 feet apart) can be maintained.
Face masks may be cloth or disposable. Individuals reporting to campus are expected to maintain their own supply of masks that fit appropriately and can be cleaned regularly and replaced when soiled in accordance with CDC guidance.
Individuals who enter campus facilities without appropriate facial coverings will be asked to leave. Campus members should have a facial covering with them at all times whenever they are on campus. For individuals in need of accommodation, additional information can be found on the Accommodations of the Salem Ready, Salem Strong site.
CDC Guidance for Use of Facial Coverings
Campus members must practice safe social distancing at all times, including staying at least 6 feet apart from other people and to the extent possible avoiding gathering in large groups. Since asymptomatic people can spread COVID-19 without knowing they are ill, it is important to stay a safe distance from others.
Healthy Hand Hygiene
Healthy hand hygiene and frequent hand washing are required. Campus members are expected to wash their hands often with soap and water for at least 20 seconds, especially after visiting a public space and blowing their nose, coughing, sneezing, or touching their face. If soap and water are not readily available, individuals should use appropriate hand sanitizer. For COVID-19 prevention, avoid shaking hands and touching your eyes, nose, mouth, and face. Salem will provide hand-sanitizer in building lobbies and common spaces to encourage and facilitate campus members keeping their hands clean.
Campus members are expected to exhibit coughing and sneezing hygiene by covering their mouth and nose with a tissue when coughing or sneezing or using the inside of their elbow. Individuals must throw used tissues in a trash receptacle and immediately wash their hands with soap and water for at least 20 seconds or clean their hands with an appropriate hand sanitizer.
