From the Head of School

“So, for me, the town hall meetings are really an opportunity to engage in two-way dialogue with people, and they've been very helpful.” (Jack Markell, former Delaware Governor)

Please mark your calendars for a Salem Academy Town Hall Meeting

What: Town Hall for current Salem Academy Families, students, and parents
When: Saturday, February 8, 2020, at 10:00 am (Zoom for those who cannot attend)
Where: Shirley Auditorium in the Fine Arts Center (FAC)
Who: Parents, students, President Sandra Doran, Board Chair Dara Folan, Academy Committee Chair Julia Archer, Head of School Carol Killebrew

My first response is because this is something that we need to do! It is important to address concerns, share successes, answer questions, and clear up incorrect assumptions. I want this to be an opportunity for honest dialogue.

My second response is because we care! We care about your daughters, about the history of this institution, and about a Salem Academy education. This Town Hall is a place to let us hear about the challenges so that we can address them and partner with you to make certain to correct and adjust what needs our attention.

My third (and final) reason is because there are great things on the horizon for Salem Academy! I am excited to update you on the work that was done last summer with a consultant for the school and the various task forces that are helping to craft all kinds of exciting opportunities for your daughters.

I will send out a more official invitation, but I do hope that you will be able to attend.

Far may our song ring clear!

Carol Killebrew

I realize that last week’s newsletter had some typos (thank you for bringing them to my attention). They have been corrected on the online version which is on the website.

Salem Academy Robotics Teams Prepare for First Qualifier

Even through Jan Term, The Sisters of the Motherboard and the Code Sisters have been hard at work to prepare our robots for competition! With mostly upperclassmen on campus during the winter break and Jan Term, upperclassmen in the area have spent time with the younger members to tie loose ends before our first competition on February 1st at the Asheville School.

Today, both teams are spending the day at Mounts Robotics Center to begin practice driving, finish coding the robots, and consult our wonderful and experienced mentors there as we quickly approach our first qualifier. Meanwhile, our small but mighty social media and engineering notebook team has remained on campus to proof our notebook, prepare our competition display boards, and begin the printing process.
