Sharon Spencer first earned a B.A. in Biology, then realizing her love of teaching returned to school to earn an M.A. in Biology along with her teaching certificate. Interest in ecology and a love of travel resulted in many professional development experiences in foreign countries. These include participation in the Japan Fulbright Memorial Fund program, N.C. Science Museum Institutes in Belize and Ecuador and an Eisenhower grant to travel to the Peruvian Amazon. She has chaperoned numerous Salem Academy trips to Australia, Peru, France, Ecuador and the Galapagos, and Costa Rica. For seven years, she participated in scoring Advanced Biology Exam essays and is also a member of the National Association of Biology Teachers, the National Science Teachers Association, the North Carolina Science Teachers Association and the Environmental Educators of North Carolina. Interests include gardening, vermicomposting, ornithology, wildflowers, photography, actually most anything to do with nature and the great outdoors.
